For years, the Los Angeles Chargers struggled to take a leap and be considered a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
They had a very good quarterback who posted impressive numbers, but as good as Philip Rivers was, he was never the best in the game.
Notably, it looks like history might repeat itself for this franchise.
They may no longer be in San Diego, but their woes are still haunting them.
As pointed out by JPA Football on X, Justin Herbert‘s numbers against playoff teams over the past three years have been quite concerning.
He’s just 3-18 (.143) during that span.

Granted, we have to consider that the final year of the Brandon Staley regime was far from ideal, and the questionable head coaching had plenty to do with that.
Nevertheless, we have to keep the same energy with Herbert as we do with other elite quarterbacks.
Herbert is extremely talented and incredibly athletic, but he often gets a pass for his team’s shortcomings.
He’s not entirely to blame for their woes, but he’s also left plenty to be desired when the game and the season have been on the line, just like what happened with his predecessor.
Herbert is still young, and he has a winning head coach and a much-improved supporting cast by his side now.
Still, that’s a double-edged sword, as he will now be under even more pressure to prove that he can hold his own against the cream of the crop, and there will be no more room for excuses.
