Finnegan has served as the Nationals’ closer for parts of the last five seasons and ranks top five in franchise history in saves.
After being non-tendered in the fall, the 33-year-old returned to Washington on a one-year, $6 million deal and will become a free agent at the end of the season.
A six-foot-two right-hander, Finnegan has once again been a reliable option for the Nationals at the end of games, posting a 4.38 ERA and collecting 20 saves over 40 appearances in 2025.
Randall was Detroit’s third-round pick in 2024 and made his way to high-A this year, delivering a scoreless start in his debut at the level on Sunday.
Sales, a 10th-round pick from last year’s draft, has worked to a 2.71 ERA over 66.1 innings at low-A in his first pro season.
On Thursday, the Tigers also swung a deal for veteran righty reliever Paul Sewald with the Cleveland Guardians, following up Wednesday’s move for Rafael Montero from the Atlanta Braves.
