The Detroit Tigers have added veteran depth to their bullpen ahead of a postseason push, acquiring right-handed reliever Kyle Finnegan from the Washington Nationals on Thursday, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Finnegan, 33, brings late-inning experience to Detroit, being Washington’s primary closer since 2023. Despite a rocky 2025 season with Washington — marked by a 4.38 ERA — he’s managed to collect 20 saves and post 32 strikeouts and 14 walks in 39 innings.
While Finnegan is unlikely to replace Will Vest as the closer — Vest leads Detroit with 16 saves and boasts a 2.53 ERA — the Tigers now have a veteran late-game option.
