Filipinas add new names to roster for Asean Women’s Championship

MANILA, Philippines–Seven new players were named to the Philippine women’s football team roster for the defense of the Asean Women’s Championship slated Aug. 6 to 19 in Vietnam.

Youth members Isabella Alamo, Tea Pidding and Lyka Cuenco plus Jaycee DeFazio, Azumi Oka, Aaliyah Schinaman and Adelaide Wyrzynski were selected by coach Mark Torcaso on the 23-player list announced on Saturday.

The announcement also came on the same day the Filipinas took part in a sendoff event by the Philippine Football Federation.

Hali Long, Olivia McDaniel, Quinley Quezada and Chandler McDaniel lead the Filipinas lineup for the competition which they won three years ago before home supporters at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Jane DeFazio, Dionesa Tolentin, Charisa Lemoran, Malea Cesar and Inna Palacios are also going to Vietnam for the tournament commercially known as the Serenity Cup, so are Nino Meollo, Rhea Chan, Kaya Hawkinson, Aliana Weibel, Alessandrea Carpio and Nina Mathelus.

The Filipinas are in Group B along with Australia U-23, Myanmar and Timor-Leste, needing to secure a top two finish to reach the semifinals.

In Group A are host Vietnam, 2022 runner-up Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia.

The Philippines’ first match is on Friday against Timor-Leste at Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho.
