This weekend could be a very big one for the Los Angeles Lakers.
The team might finally get some really good news about Luka Doncic and his future with them.
According to Jake Weinbach, Doncic is “widely expected to sign a long-term contract extension with the Lakers this weekend.”
“Doncic, who has been viewed as the face of the franchise in L.A. since arriving last February, becomes eligible to sign a four-year, $229M max extension tomorrow,” Weinbach wrote on Friday.

Just how much of that max extension will Doncic get if he agrees to terms with the Lakers?
Some people predict that he will get every single penny, and many believe he’s worth it all.
There is no doubt that the Lakers want Doncic for the rest of his career – and there are reasons to believe that he could stay with the team until he retires.
He reportedly wanted to remain with the Dallas Mavericks forever, but that team had other plans.
Now that he has been warmly welcomed by the Lakers, their players, and fans, Doncic might end up in Los Angeles for good.
Of course, it goes beyond how he feels about the team, and his paycheck is obviously important.
That is why LA’s front office is going to throw millions upon millions of dollars at him, hoping it convinces him to stay.
All signs say that it will, but the Lakers will need to pay Doncic well and surround him with A-plus talent.
They have been working hard this summer, but they will have to stay diligent.
They have Doncic, and they might secure him for a very long time, but they need to keep him happy.
