A new revelation has surfaced in the saga between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys.
On Friday, Parsons requested a trade from Dallas after claiming that the front office had not talked to his agent about his contract extension.
Not long after Parsons made the report, NFL Network’s Jane Slater tried to provide context on the situation with Parsons and Dallas.
She revealed that the Cowboys had discussed trading Parsons two years ago because of issues teammates had with his podcast, but owner Jerry Jones wanted to keep the star outside linebacker.
“Listen, the Cowboys internally had whispered the idea of trading Micah 2 seasons ago. I was told Jerry was absolutely against it. Why? Micah would rub teammates the wrong way with the podcast comments at times, saying he was a leader then not showing it at times and as one coach told me ‘nearly every player was in my office telling us we needed to do something about him’ I do think Micah turned some of that around in recent months,” Slater posted on X.
“Could it be contract motivated or maturity? Who knows. But if FO was gonna trade him the time was 2 years ago pre draft when the haul would have been massive. I think there is an element of shock here bc Micah knows he’s elite at his position and believes he should have been first in line to get a deal done. One could argue players have been far more problematic in the past and gotten deals done.”
Slater continued, writing that she does believe a deal will get done but the situation shouldn’t have ever gotten to this point.
“When this ‘imminent contract’ was floated in the spring was reported I put cold water on it,” Slater posted, “bc you have to have the agent involved and then Jerry escalated things with his thoughts on his agent etc. both sides have a mirror to look into here IMO. Micah’s personality and fearlessness to speak his mind has been rare as most guys might have said a thing or two but chose largely not to talk. I still believe the deal gets done. Micah has a year left and won’t want to not be on the field and Jerry isn’t gonna wanna let one of his best players just sit nor create a locker room situation as players are currently rallying around Micah. My meter is not moved here. This is Dallas. But it shouldn’t have even gotten to this point.”
