MANILA, Philippines — Myla Pablo and the Petro Gazz Angels remained focused on their goal despite the sudden exit of champion coach Koji Tsuzurabara in the middle of the PVL on Tour.
Despite the Japanese coach’s shock resignation last week, Pablo gave Petro Gazz a lift, pouring in 23 points to torch the skidding Choco Mucho, 20-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-17, on Tuesday night at Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur.
“This game meant a lot for us, especially heading into the crossover. We want to carry this confidence into our next match,” said Pablo in Filipino after leading the way with 19 kills, three blocks, and an ace on top of 16 excellent receptions.
Rookie AC Miner continues to show the potential to be the cornerstone of ZUS Coffee, considering what the fifth overall pick in the Draft showed on Tuesday night in leading the Thunderbelles to a come-from-behind 19-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 15-6 win over Chery Tiggo in the PVL On Tour at Candon Arena in Ilocos Sur.
Miner sparked the Thunderbelles, scoring seven of her game-high 19 points in the fourth frame to force a decider, where she was backstopped by Chinnie Arroyo for a hot 9-3 start as ZUS Coffee derailed the Crossovers’ outright quarterfinal bid on the way to tying their victims at 3-2 in Pool B.
“I think our biggest weapon was not giving up, especially that fourth set,” said Miner, who had 15 kills and four blocks. “If we didn’t give it our all there, the match would’ve been over. But we pushed until the end.”

MANILA, Philippines — Bang Pineda hardly missed a beat three years after she last played for the Petro Gazz Angels in the PVL.
Pineda, who recently returned after coach Koji Tsuzurabara’s departure, shone in her first game back with 13 digs and 12 excellent receptions to help the Angels end their two-game skid against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 20-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-17, in the PVL on Tour on Tuesday night at Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur.
Brian Esquibel, who was promoted to call the shots for Petro Gazz on an interim basis, tipped his hat off to Pineda after helping them finish fourth in Pool A with a 2-3 record.
