The Mole exclusive; Darryl Halligan’s advice after Jayden Campbell incident with Panthers trainer

Goalkicking maestro Darryl Halligan has come up with interesting advice for players who find themselves in the situation Jayden Campbell was placed in on the weekend.

At a vital stage of the game, the Titans halfback had to stop his routine preparing for a vital shot at goal because a Penrith trainer ran right in front of him.

But according to Halligan, the speedster could have handled things differently.

“That was his mistake – he stopped,” the former Bulldogs star told Wide World of Sports.

“I can’t blame him because I probably would have done the same too in such a bizarre moment – but thinking about it later, as difficult as it would have been to keep his concentration, Jayden should have kept his rythm and taken the shot at goal.

“Why? Because if he kicked the goal then happy days and if he missed, the ref would surely have given him another shot. It’s win-win, but that is with the benefit of hindsight.

“It was a strange situation for sure, but that is what I took out of it.”

Halligan is regarded among the best goalkickers in league history and coaches many of today’s sharpshooters including Bulldogs captain Stephen Crichton.

Panthers trainer Corey Bocking is facing a five-game suspension from the NRL for the incident, while the club could be fined $50,000 over the incident.

It is alleged the trainer unnecessarily interfered with and distracted Campbell in an act that is not in the spirit of the game.
