MANILA, Philippines — After giving a glimpse of what she’s capable of, Galeries Tower’s second overall pick Jean Asis is bracing for a more challenging PVL Reinforced Conference ahead.

Asis served as a silver lining to Galeries Tower’s winless PVL on Tour campaign, which ended after a straight-sets loss to Chery Tiggo in the knockout round.

Asis was the 16th-best scorer in the preseason with a total of 55 points, fourth-best blocker with an average of 0.56 kill blocks per set, a top-five server with 0.38 aces per set, and a top-10 spiker with a 43.01 percent attack rate in her maiden campaign as a pro.

“This is my first conference, and the journey hasn’t been easy. I gave my best, but it wasn’t enough to win for the team. Maybe in the next conferences, we will apply all the learnings, and it’ll be up to us to improve moving forward,” said Asis in Filipino before leaving Dasmariñas, Cavite, last Saturday.

“In our previous games, the matches were really close. We were just a little short, but I know our team has the potential to keep up and compete with the other teams. We can still show what we’re capable of,” she added.

The 5-foot-10 middle blocker vows to prepare for the import-laden conference, where she formally makes her in-season debut.

“The next conference will definitely be a challenge with imports on each team. I don’t know yet how they’ll play, so I’ll just focus on preparing myself, strengthening my blocking, attacking, and serving. I won’t let myself get too comfortable with any opponent. I’ll perform based on what we’ve trained for,” Asis said.

The former Far Eastern University star embraces the high expectations as the second overall pick of a stacked 2025 Rookie Draft class.

“I’ve been prepared by my college coaches, especially Coach Tina (Salak) and the assistant coaches. They really prepared me for how tough the PVL can be. They gave me the experience of facing pressure and tough situations, and with their help, I’ve been learning to overcome them,” she said.

“In the PVL, you really have to be mature in the game. If you make a mistake, you can’t just shrug it off, you need to recover and make up for it. In the UAAP, it’s more like “It’s okay, don’t worry,” but here, it’s all about outsmarting and adjusting to the game.”
