NBA Insider Says Hawks Star Is ‘Disappointed’ About Contract

Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks is currently eligible for a four-year, $229 million maximum contract, but he hasn’t received it, at least not yet.

And that is having an impact on him, according to a new report from Marc Spears.

“He’s disappointed that it hasn’t come,” said Spears, via NBACentral.

How big an impact will this have on Young and his opinion of the only team he’s ever played for?

Young has two years left on his current contract, including a player option for 2026-27.

If he wanted, he could try his luck on the open market as early as next summer, and there is a good chance he does that now that the Hawks are dragging their heels about a deal.

The team is going through changes, but Young is still a vital part of their roster.

Last season, he averaged 24.2 points and 11.6 assists per game.

Even with new faces like Zaccharie Risacher, Dyson Daniels, and Jalen Johnson in the rotation, Young is still at the center of it all.

But will it be that way for much longer?

Perhaps the Hawks aren’t offering him an extension because they are picturing a future without him.

Maybe they want to see how this season goes, contemplating letting him go for good.

No matter their reason, the Hawks’ choice is angering Young, and he may not stick around forever.

If he becomes available to other teams, many will want to sign him.

Young is not without his problems, but he’s a coveted point guard and would quickly find a new home somewhere else in the NBA.
