MANILA, Philippines — Fresh from another podium finish, Alas Pilipinas wraps up its 5th SEA V-League campaign in the second leg in Vietnam from Friday to Sunday.
After capturing its fifth bronze medal in the regional meet, the Philippines aims to surpass its best finish by defeating the past two finalists in the last six tournaments–Thailand and Vietnam.
The Filipinos won one set each in their previous meetings against Southeast Asia’s powerhouse teams before capturing their third consecutive bronze in the tournament by beating Indonesia, 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 25-13, behind the stellar showing of Leg 1 1st Best Outside Spiker Angel Canino.
Alas opens its campaign against host and six-time runner-up Vietnam on Friday at 8 p.m.
The Nationals, handled by Brazilian coach Jorge Souza De Brito, then battle eight-time champion Thailand, which has yet to drop a game since the league was formed in 2019.
The Jia De Guzman-led Alas, which hopes to end a 20-year SEA Games medal drought later this year, closes its campaign against Indonesia.
