Metal Gear Solid Delta: Release Date and News

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set for release later in 2025 and will be a faithful remaster of the hugely popular stealth-shooter Metal Gear Solid 3.

Konami, the game’s developers have confirmed that the story will remain the same as the 2004 release, returning to Russia during the cold war and allowing players to relive the gaming masterpiece all over again, this time in the beauty of Unreal Engine 5.

PC Gamer describe the remake as a “shot-for-shot, not-a-hair-out-of-place recreation of the original”, Konami are set to be taking the approach of if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

Here’s everything we know so far about the highly anticipated remake.

What We Know So Far

From play tests we know that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will contain the same dialogue audio as the original game, meaning that every interaction and cinematic will be line-for-line the same as the 2004 release, just refined in the powerful new Unreal Engine 5 rather than the PS2’s limited graphics.

The meticulousness of the developers goes further, the jungle has been recreated so faithfully that trees stand at the exact same point as they did two decades ago, and the environment renders in and out at the same distances Metal Gear fans will remember.

While the game will feel very similar to the 2004 version, the camera will now be in first-person, rather than the original’s third-person perspective.

The game’s trailer also points towards a fan-favourite mini-game returning to the series, but only for some players. Snake vs Monkey will return to PC and Playstation fans, but while Xbox users will take on a familiar foe to Konami fans. Konami will bring in the iconic figure of Bomberman into the Metal Gear game for the Xbox exclusive mode.

In the announcement, the developers alluded to future crossovers coming to the game, the details of these are not yet known.

Release Date and Consoles

As mentioned previously, the game will be availabe on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, meaning that Nintendo Switch and eight-gen console fans will be missing out.

At Sony’s State of Play 2025 Konami announced the release date to be August 28, 2025.
