LaMelo Ball Gets Honest About Trade Rumors

After the Charlotte Hornets suffered through another miserable season, there are rumors that they could trade guard LaMelo Ball.

Ball averaged 25.2 points and 7.4 assists per game this season but shot just 40.5 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from 3-point range and continues to be injury-prone.

He played just 47 games and suffered ankle and wrist injuries that required multiple procedures.

Ball recently kept things in perspective when he talked about whether the trade rumors are bothering him.

“I’m bothered if I don’t eat, if I ain’t got the meal, I’ll call my people, hopefully some food will come. Bother means like stuff throughout the day.  … But telling you to go somewhere or do this, nah. It can’t,” Ball said, via Legion Hoops.

Ball was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft after he had committed to play at UCLA, then spent a season in Australia’s National Basketball League following his senior year of high school.

He won NBA Rookie of the Year for the 2020-21 season, averaging 15.7 points, 6.1 assists and 5.9 rebounds per game, although he appeared in just 51 of a possible 72 games.

He played 75 games the following season and was an All-Star for the first time, but in the three seasons that followed, he hasn’t appeared in more than 47 games in a single campaign.

The Hornets are in a perpetual rebuilding state and have not made the playoffs since 2016.
