Capitals hold off Canadiens, take 2-0 series lead


The Washington Capitals beat the Canadiens 3-1 in Game 2 on Wednesday to grab a 2-0 lead in the first-round series.

After a scoreless first period, Canadiens forward Christian Dvorak opened the scoring early in the second to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

But Connor McMichael and Dylan Strome replied later in the second with goals one minute apart to put the Capitals on top. The Canadiens scrambled with multiple chances in the third period but weren’t able to solve Logan Thompson again. The Capitals then sealed the victory with an empty-net goal by McMichael.

The series now shifts to Montreal with Game 3 set for Friday at the Bell Centre. Watch the game live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
