Three Predictions: Texas, Baylor, the next two-way star
Rivals national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman has predictions on Texas adding a four-star defender, Baylor picking up a four-star receiver and college football’s next two-way standout.
TEXAS WILL LAND FOUR-STAR SAFETY
The Longhorns have found their rhythm on the recruiting trail and are laying the groundwork for an active summer when official visits hit. Among the recruits that Texas has made the biggest strides with includes top-100 safety Chace Calicut out of the Houston area. Since offering, Texas has hosted the four-star safety on multiple occasions, including for Longhorn City Limits earlier this month.
Michigan, Washington and Ole Miss are not going anywhere in this recruitment, but there’s a strong sense that Texas will be too hard to beat for Calicut in the end. My prediction is on Texas to win out.
BAYLOR WILL LAND FOUR-STAR RECEIVER JORDAN CLAY
Jordan Clay is one of the most sought-after pass-catchers in this 2026 cycle. Baylor, Colorado and Oklahoma have jumped to the forefront with the four-star receiver from Texas. Of that group, no contender has been more consistent in this recruitment than the Bears. Dave Aranda has maintained a leading role in this courtship along with position coach Dallas Baker.
As this recruitment winds down, there is increased belief that Baylor will win out for the in-state target. I’ve logged a prediction for the Bears – and confidence is growing.
JERMAINE BISHOP JR. WILL BE THE NEXT TWO-WAY STANDOUT
It’s not fair to make comparisons to Travis Hunter, who by all accounts is set to be the first non-QB off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night. Hunter played both ways at the high school level at Collins Hill High – and continued at both Jackson State and then Colorado. He is going to be a difference-maker playing both receiver and cornerback in the NFL.
It’s lofty to expect another prospect to be as dynamic on both sides of the ball as Hunter was the past three years. One recruit who gives me confidence that can is four-star athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr. The nephew of former Kansas State standout Michael Bishop, Jermaine has been exceptional as a receiver and defensive back for Willis (Texas) High the past two seasons and has been on an absolute tear this offseason playing multiple sports and also performing at a high clip in various off-season activities.
Texas loves Bishop as a defensive back, whereas Houston and the Aggies have visions of the four-star on both sides of the ball
