They weren’t able to get the job done, but the Miami Heat looked much more competitive against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.
In fact, they gave the Cavs a good scare and seemed like they might end up winning the game.
Following the 121-112 loss, Davion Mitchell of the Heat talked with The Athletic about playing the Cavaliers and praised them, but pointed out their weak spots.
“It’s kind of like a boxing match, honestly,” Mitchell said. “I think that at the beginning of the game, they got more energy, so they’re in the right gaps, they’re more aggressive. Then throughout the game, they get tired and they’re not in the right spots.”
Along with Mitchell, there were multiple stars from Miami who did quite well during the game.
Tyler Herro led the way with his 33 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
He was followed by Mitchell, who was a revelation again with his 18 points.
He has been a gift for the Heat lately, and fans should expect head coach Erik Spoelstra to use him more often in the games ahead.
Meanwhile, Haywood Highsmith put up 17 points off the bench, while Nikola Jovic committed 11, just like Bam Adebayo.
Andrew Wiggins scored 10 points, and all other Heat players were in single digits.
Miami showed fight in the game, but it was just not enough.
They are now down 2-0, but the series is headed to Florida.
Can the Heat score a win in front of their home crowd?
They are in a deep hole, and it seems unlikely they will get through this series but they fought harder in Game 2.
Now they have to keep it up and continue to make each game feel like a boxing match.
Mitchell liked what he saw from his team in Game 2, but the future is now even more challenging.
