The Montreal Canadiens were forced to make a goalie change midway through Game 3 against the Washington Capitals.
The team announced before the start of the third period that Montembeault would not return.
With the game tied 2-2 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the second period, Montembeault left for the team’s dressing room.
It’s unclear what exactly forced Montembeault to leave the game, but he was spotted holding the back of his left leg after making a push across his crease.
Montembeault, 28, started both games to open the series. In the two losses, he recorded a 2.49 goals-against average and .921 save percentage. He stopped 11 of the 13 shots he faced in Game 3 before he was forced to leave.
Dobes, 23, started 15 games for the Canadiens this season and had a 2.74 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.
The Capitals lead the first-round series 2-0.
