MANILA, Philippines—Far Eastern University clinched the top seeding after turning back La Salle, 21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-22, in a UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball Final Four preview on Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Led by Dryx Saavedra, the Tamaraws gave the No. 4 Green Spikers a lot to think about heading into their semifinal matchup.
“From day one until today, the last day of the elimination round, I can confidently say that these kids deserve to be where they’re at right now because they’re so hungry,” said FEU coach Eddieson Orcullo, whose squad completed an elimination round sweep of the Green Spikers.

Saavedra exploded for 25 points while Mikko Espartero added 15 in the victory.
Noel Kampton continued to shine with 16 points for La Salle, which wrapped up the eliminations with a 9-5 slate.
Meanwhile, Ateneo finished its season with a thrilling comeback win over University of the East, 18-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-12.
The victory put the Blue Eagles at the .500 mark with a 7-7 card in fifth place.

“This team is very promising considering that this is just our first year with coach Vince (Mangulabnan) as the lead coach. The players reacted well with the new system applied so I’m very excited for next season,” said Ateneo deputy Peter Torres.
Amil Pacinio had 18 points while MVP contender Kennedy Batas finished with 17 points for Ateneo.
Roy Piojo poured in 22 points for the Red Warriors, who finished the season winless.
