Patrick Peterson Reveals How He Wants To Be Remembered In NFL

Patrick Peterson’s journey from highly-touted draft prospect to NFL legend has reached its fitting conclusion.

The star cornerback recently put pen to paper on a one-day contract with the Arizona Cardinals, bringing his remarkable 13-year career full circle.

As Peterson closes this chapter, he’s clear about how he wants fans to remember his time on the field.

During a recent appearance on the “Up & Adams” show, he didn’t hesitate when asked about his legacy.

“A shutdown corner. That’s what I was. You know, I was the guy that was called upon week-in and week-out to take on these No. 1 receivers, without any complaints or any help or, you know, anything like that. I always was a guy who faced the challenge, face forward. So, ‘a shutdown corner, hands down, never backed down from a challenge. Always wanted all the smoke,’” Peterson said.

When the Arizona Cardinals selected Peterson fifth overall in 2011, expectations were sky-high.

What followed was nothing short of spectacular – eight Pro Bowl appearances and three first-team All-Pro selections that cemented his place among the game’s elite defensive backs.

Coming out of LSU as the fifth pick in 2011, Peterson made an immediate impact that set the tone for his career.

His rookie campaign launched an incredible streak of eight straight Pro Bowl seasons, establishing him as one of the NFL’s premier defenders.

Peterson became the backbone of Arizona’s feared secondary.

His versatility showed from the start – he tied an NFL record with four punt return touchdowns in his rookie season while simultaneously locking down opposing receivers.

After ten seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Peterson had brief stints with the Minnesota Vikings before finishing with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023.
