MANILA, Philippines—Rodney Brondial made the most of his starting nod for San Miguel Beer in the PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday.

Playing extended minutes, Brondial came up big as the Beermen eased past the Terrafirma Dyip, 128-99, at Ynares Center in Montalban, Rizal.

“This is important for me. Whatever I can give, especially the intangibles, if it helps the team, I’ll provide it,” said Brondial.

“I’m not looking for my points because ever since, I just focus on rebounding and defense. It just so happened today that I scored these points, I’m actually counting my rebounds more.”

The Adamson product dominated with a monster double-double of 16 points and 22 rebounds. June Mar Fajardo also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

“It’s all-Filipino now, it’s our chance to play,” said Brondial after helping the Beermen improve to a 5-2 card.

If there was anyone, though, who wasn’t surprised by Brondial performance, it’s coach Leo Austria.

“Ever since, we knew [about] his hard-nosed defense and rebounding,” said Austria, who was also Brondial’s coach in college with the Adamson Falcons in the UAAP. “Even during practice, you can see his intensity.”
