MANILA, Philippines–NLEX strengthened its quest for a twice-to-beat advantage while completing the quarterfinal cast by eliminating Phoenix, 105-95, in the PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Javee Mocon provided an important lift at the expense of his former team, posting 23 points, nine rebounds and three assists as the Road Warriors improved to 7-2 after bouncing back from last weekend’s loss to the defending champion Meralco Bolts.

The result also allowed Barangay Ginebra, TNT and Rain or Shine, all with 5-3 records as of posting time, to clinch the last three spots in the quarters after Phoenix was eliminated from contention.
Phoenix dropped to 2-7 with a fourth consecutive defeat.
Robert Bolick had another strong showing to lead NLEX with 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while three others scored in double figures, namely rookies JB Bahio and Xyrus Torres plus veteran Tony Semerad.
The Road Warriors went ahead by 13 in the second quarter but had to weather flashes of comebacks by the Fuel Masters, but their lead didn’t encounter a severe threat until the end.

NLEX climbed up to second in the standings, trailing Magnolia with its 7-1 record prior to its marquee clash with Ginebra in the nightcap.
The two ballclubs will face off on Friday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Jason Perkins tallied 28 points, seven rebounds and three assists even as Kenneth Tuffin added 17 points, five rebounds and three assists for the defeated Fuel Masters.
Phoenix will look to snap its skid on Wednesday against NorthPort at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
