Another budding star appears ready for the big show.
The Kansas City Royals are reportedly calling up top prospect Jac Caglianone, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Sunday.
He was drafted sixth overall in 2024 and has since split his time between double-A and triple-A. He’s played 50 games in that span, slashing .322/.389/.593 with 15 home runs and 56 RBIs.
The University of Florida product was a two-way standout in college, hitting a combined 68 homers through two seasons while going 12-6 as a pitcher through 148.1 innings.
Caglianone even took home the 2024 John Olerud award, given to the best two-way player in college baseball.
In his draft year, the Tampa Bay, Fla. native slashed .419/.544/.875 with more home runs (35) than strikeouts (26) over 66 games.
And while he’s expressed an interest in playing on both sides during his pro career, his stints leading up to his major-league debut have been exclusively at the plate.
Kansas City is 31-29 this season and sits fourth in the AL Central, eight games back of the Detroit Tigers, who beat the Royals on Sunday to take a three-game series 2-1.
They’ll return to action on Tuesday, possibly with the addition of Caglianone, as the Royals visit the St. Louis Cardinals.
