Falcons Make 2 Roster Moves On Monday

The Atlanta Falcons completed their fourth organized team activity of the offseason before making a pair of roster adjustments.

The moves reflect a continued effort to evaluate and strengthen their secondary as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Atlanta brought back a familiar face while simultaneously releasing another to create roster space.

“The Falcons have signed S Josh Thompson and released S Benny Sapp III, per the team,” Marc Raimondi wrote on X.

The transactions reunite the Falcons with Thompson after a brief stint with the organization.

He enters his second opportunity with Atlanta after a winding professional journey.

Undrafted in 2022, Thompson made the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 53-man roster before being released and returning to their practice squad.

The Tennessee Titans claimed Thompson and he appeared in six games on special teams. He recorded four tackles across 83 snaps while managing a knee injury.

After being released, he rejoined their practice squad but remained inactive for the 2023 season.

He signed a reserve/futures contract with the Houston Texans but was released, leaving him as a free agent until the Falcons signed him last August.

Meanwhile, Sapp entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2023, appearing in five games as a rookie with the Green Bay Packers, but he has not seen regular-season action since.

He joined Atlanta’s practice squad late in the 2024 season and signed a futures contract.
