Judiciary bans Dolphins star for high shot, Origin causes mayhem, Radley future clouded

Felise Kaufusi is set to miss two matches through suspension in a sour postscript to the Dolphins’ record-breaking rout of North Queensland.

The veteran forward went to the sin bin for rushing out of the line and flooring Tom Duffy with a late, high hit during the first half of Saturday’s 58-4 win.

On Sunday morning, the match review committee handed Kaufusi a grade-three dangerous contact charge, the worst possible grading.

It means Kaufusi will miss upcoming matches against Newcastle in Perth and South Sydney by taking the early guilty plea.

He would risk sitting out the following clash against Cronulla by challenging the ruling.

Kaufusi’s absence will leave Woolf with a selection dilemma given fellow middle forward options Daniel Saifiti, Tom Gilbert, Thomas Flegler and Max Plath are dealing with long-term injuries.

His former Storm teammate Kenny Bromwich is a chance for an NRL recall if he can recover from a neck injury in time.

Newcastle forward Thomas Cant has been charged for his high shot on Hugo Savala from the 12-8 loss to the Sydney Roosters but can accept a $1000 fine.

Earlier in the round, Sharks pivot Braydon Trindall was fined after being charged with dangerous contact in Thursday’s win over the Dragons.

Trindall hit Kyle Flanagan late after a kick and has been pinged $1800.

Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson is remaining calm after Victor Radley went down with the latest in a string of head knocks during the 12-8 defeat of Newcastle.

Hard-nosed forward Radley suffered his second game-ending head knock of the season attempting to tackle Fletcher Hunt in Saturday night’s win in Newcastle.

Radley has one of the most extensive concussion histories in the NRL, estimated to have gone down with seven game-ending head knocks in the past four seasons.

He will miss at least next week’s clash against North Queensland before the Roosters have their third bye of the season. Egan Butcher also copped a game-ending head knock.

“They said they were close to passing (head injury assessments),” Robinson said. “They’re going to have this week and then our bye week so they’re going to have some rest on the back of that.

“Do the right recovery, he gets the bonus of an extra week (off).”

Wednesday night’s Origin clash will cause plenty of headaches for coaches this week and the travel burden from the match being in Perth will make a quick turnaround even harder.

Penrith have a nightmare scenario of five players being involved in Origin and then having to fly to Auckland for Saturday’s stoush with the Warriors, who only have Maroons forward Kurt Capewell on rep duty.

Round 16 teams

All times AEST

Tigers vs Raiders at Campbelltown Stadium: 7.50pm, Friday June 20

Tigers: Jarome Luai will face a quick turnaround to turn out for Wests after he was a late call-up to the NSW side for Origin II.

Alex Twal (concussion) and fellow middle forward Fonua Pole (knee) need to prove their fitness.

Raiders: Hudson Young and Maroons game-day reserve Corey Horsburgh have less than 48 hours to get from Perth to Campbelltown for the tussle with the Tigers.

Warriors vs Panthers at Go Media Stadium: 3pm, Saturday June 21

Warriors: Kurt Capewell is the home side’s loan Origin representative. Rocco Berry (hamstring) is a maybe.

Panthers: With five players in action on Wednesday night in WA, coach Ivan Cleary has a big decision to make about whether to get them to back up for club duty following an arduous journey on top of a bruising match.

Dolphins vs Knights at HBF Park, Perth: 5.30pm, Saturday June 21

Dolphins: If Maroons winger Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow does not back up from rep duty, Jake Averillo will be on standby to play fullback again after his dazzling display in their Cowboys cakewalk.

Felise Kaufusi will be missing from the pack for the next 2-3 matches due to a high tackle ban.

Knights: Kalyn Ponga did not play for the Knights after Origin I so Fletcher Sharpe could end up at fullback again.

Kiwi prop Leo Thompson has two more games to serve for his crusher tackle ban while veteran forward Tyson Frizell could be back after a recent concussion, likewise with Jacob Saifiti (calf) and Bradman Best is slated to play after more than a month out with hamstring damage.

Rabbitohs vs Storm at Accor Stadium: 7.35pm, Saturday June 21

Rabbitohs: NSW centre Latrell Mitchell is South Sydney’s only player on Origin duty for NSW, with Jye Gray a chance to get another run at fullback.

Cody Walker (groin) is no guarantee to return after sitting out Round 15.

Storm: Craig Bellamy has to check on Xavier Coates, Cameron Munster, Trent Loeiro, Harry Grant and Stefano Utoikamanu after Origin II before he can finalise his line-up.

Broncos vs Sharks at Suncorp Stadium: 2pm, Sunday June 22

Broncos: Payne Haas and Patrick Carrigan have to get through Origin II while Ben Hunt (hamstring) and Jack Gosiewski (arm) could be cleared for their comebacks.

Sharks: Braydon Trindall has avoided suspension, copping a fine for a late hit on Kyle Flanagan in the win over St George Illawarra.

Roosters vs Cowboys at Allianz Stadium: 4.05pm, Sunday June 22

Roosters: Victor Radley’s immediate playing future is clouded again after he suffered a concussion in Saturday’s win over Newcastle.

Origin stars Connor Watson, Angus Crichton, Spencer Leniu, Lindsay Collins and Robert Toia will be assessed after Wednesday’s game while star half Sam Walker’s return to the NRL from a long-term knee injury has been delayed a month after he broke his thumb at training before Saturday’s win in Newcastle.

Cowboys: Tom Dearden, Reece Robson, Jeremiah Nanai and Reuben Cotter are in Origin camp while Viliami Vailea and John Bateman are available after serving one-game bans.

Jason Taumalolo was a late scratching from Saturday’s loss to the Dolphins and is no guarantee to return from his calf problem.

Eels vs Titans at CommBank Stadium: 6.15pm, Sunday June 22

Eels: Mitchell Moses will be out of action after his calf tear cost him a spot in Origin II with Dean Hawkins likely to line up in the halves for the next few weeks. Jason Ryles needs to also find a new five-eighth with Dylan Brown suspended until Round 17 for making contact with a referee.

Titans: Jojo Fifita (hand), David Fifita (ankle), Tony Francis (knee) and Jaylan De Groot (hamstring) are pushing for returns while Moeaki Fotuaika and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui are on midweek Origin duty.
