Michael Irvin Reveals What Cowboys Should Do In NFL Draft

This will be a very important offseason for the Dallas Cowboys, a team that has plenty of star power but won just seven games and missed the playoffs last season.

They have many roster holes they need to plug up, and since they will have extremely limited salary cap flexibility, the upcoming NFL draft will be the only real way they can add players who can help right away.

While the Cowboys badly need a running back, a No. 2 wide receiver and help up front for their defense, team legend Michael Irvin said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that they should go out and draft a quarterback.

“I want them to go in the direction where this time, I want you to go get me a real runner,” Irvin said.

The Cowboys have a big name at quarterback in Dak Prescott, but some feel he is holding them back and that they should try to move away from him as much as possible.

Prescott agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract extension just several months ago, but he has a long documented history of playing poorly in games that mean something more, especially in the playoffs.

Irvin said Dallas should draft a “running quarterback” since Jalen Hurts, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, has established that a dual-threat quarterback can win a Super Bowl championship.

This season, Dallas was 27th in rushing yards, 30th in yards per rushing attempts and last in rushing touchdowns, and neither Prescott nor Cooper Rush — their QB1 and QB2, respectively — are threats to move the chains with their legs.
