Trey Benson Reveals Promising Mindset Coming Into This Season

The Arizona Cardinals are flying under the radar right now.

Not many people seem to trust them to be a playoff team, even though the NFC West will be a bit of a question mark.

Other than the Los Angeles Rams, no team in the division looks certain to be a playoff contender.

The Cardinals showed some teeth last season, and with quarterback Kyler Murray running the offense, they could be a dark horse.

With that in mind, second-year running back Trey Benson also wants to make a name for himself.

While he will most likely continue to play behind James Conner, Benson believes he’s poised to break out this season.

“I feel like I’ll get more opportunities and help James out more,” Benson said. “I feel like we can have two RB1s on this team, and that’s my mindset this year is two RB1s.”

Conner has had some durability issues in the past, but he’s been healthy for most of his time with Arizona.

He’s coming off consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 rushing yards, so Benson will have his work cut out to overtake Conner as the primary ball carrier.

Given his youth, it will all be about improvement and showing that he can handle those responsibilities at some point in the near future.

He had 63 carries for 291 rushing yards after he was a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Now, he’s highly motivated and determined to drive up those numbers, but that will also depend on the team’s offensive efficiency.
