In a statement from the team on Wednesday, they revealed Josi was diagnosed with POTS (Postural Tachycardia Syndrome) near the end of the 2024-25 season and has been undergoing treatment since then.
The Predators added that Josi has been progressing well in his treatment and is expected to — with continued management and treatment — return to the ice for the 2025-25 season.
POTS is a condition that causes the heart to beat faster than normal when transitioning from a sitting or lying down position to standing up, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Josi, 35, suited up for only 53 games this past season after missing the majority of the last two months with a concussion sustained from a hit by Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett.
That game on Feb. 25 against the Panthers would be the last one he suited up for this season.
In an interview with Swiss outlet Blick on Tuesday, Josi said that he was diagnosed with POTS after a check-up for his concussion. He told the outlet that he has been feeling much better since beginning treatment for the condition.
The Bern, Switzerland native ended his 14th year with nine goals and 29 assists in 53 games and carried a career-low -26 plus-minus.
