NSW Blues vs QLD Maroons; Billy Slater hugs wife Nicole in dressing room

Hammer switch an early winner

When Maroons coach Billy Slater named lightning-quick Dolphins fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow on the wing for game two, it left some fans and pundits scratching their heads.

Tabuai-Fidow, known as ‘The Hammer’, has played mostly at centre for the Maroons and plies his trade at club level as a fullback.

Remarkably, it has been three years since he last played wing in any match.

However, a positional switch with Valentine Holmes paid dividends early, with Tabuai-Fidow scoring a first-half double.

The two tries took the 23-year-old into the top 10 greatest Origin try scorers of all-time with 11.
