The Pittsburgh Steelers are rolling the dice with Aaron Rodgers.
Most teams would have been ecstatic to add the quarterback five years ago, but after watching his public fallout with the Green Bay Packers and his struggles with the New York Jets, that wasn’t the case in 2025.
The Steelers, however, always seemed to think he was their guy.
According to former NFL QB Mark Sanchez, Pittsburgh could be onto something.
Sanchez recently said that Rodgers still has plenty left in the tank and his stats from last season weren’t that bad.
“If [Aaron] can post those same numbers (as with the 2024 Jets), that’s a contender right there. All you gotta do is make the tournament. … That’s all he needs to do. That sounds easy, but the guy threw for almost 4,000 yards coming off an Achilles [injury] last year. He threw for [a] 63 percent completion percentage. I mean, 28 touchdowns, 11 picks, the guy has plenty left in the tank, that’s after an Achilles. So, if you tell me he has a defense and some sort of a running game, some weapons, like a DK Metcalf, there’s pieces there. … I like the move,” Sanchez said on “The Herd.”

Sanchez has some valid points.
A down year by Rodgers’ standards would be a career year for most quarterbacks, and people just don’t feel that way because they’ve grown used to his greatness.
Granted, Rodgers didn’t look like a four-time NFL MVP for New York, and he’s 41 years old, but some players need more than one year to return to their former level after a major injury.
Also, no one has been able to turn things around for the Jets.
The Steelers will be a big question mark this season.
Their offensive line is shaky, and they don’t have many weapons in the passing game other than Metcalf.
All that said, Rodgers is likely to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer and is arguably one of the most talented pure passers the game has ever seen, so there will always be the hope that he can do something special.
