The Indiana Pacers got some good news ahead of their must-win showdown against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6.
Superstar guard Tyrese Haliburton is in the team’s starting lineup for Thursday’s game despite dealing with a right calf strain, the team announced ahead of the outing.
Haliburton has been dealing with the injury throughout the playoffs, but re-aggravated it early in the first quarter of Game 5 on Monday night. He left briefly to return to the bench and wrap his log, but managed to return.
He played through the injury in Game 5, logging 34 minutes, but was clearly hampered and finished with only four points on no made field goals to go along with seven rebounds and six assists — his worst outing of the Finals.
The Pacers considered shutting down Haliburton at halftime, but he insisted otherwise, head coach Rick Carlisle told reporters after the game.
“It’s the NBA Finals. I’ve worked my whole life to be here, and I want to be out there to compete, help my teammates any way I can,” Haliburton said after the game.
The 25-year-old was listed as a game-time decision ahead of Game 6 and has undergone testing on the calf between games.
Throughout the Finals, Haliburton is averaging 15.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 7.2 assists while shooting 45.3 per cent from the field and 29.4 per cent from three-point range.
Down 3-2 in the series, the Pacers return home for a do-or-die Game 6. Action tips off at 8:30 p.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. PT.
