The Houston Rockets now have Kevin Durant, and they plan to take full advantage of him.
Immediately upon Durant’s arrival, fans began to wonder what Houston’s lineup would look like next season.
Who will be in the team’s starting five, and how much success will they have?
Writing for The Athletic, Sam Amick and Kelly Iko said that Fred VanVleet, Amen Thompson, Kevin Durant, Jabari Smith Jr., and Alperen Sengun will be on the court for the Rockets when the new season kicks off in the fall.
“Team sources said there are early indications Smith will likely return to the starting lineup, with Thompson — who originally replaced Smith last season after Smith broke his hand — slotting into Green’s vacated starting spot. The Rockets now possess ample length at four starting positions, amplifying the defensive tools Udoka now has at his disposal,” per Amick and Iko.
That is quite the group, and it is easily the best starting five the Rockets have had in years.
It brings a lot of depth, a lot of spacing, and a lot of strength and size.
But will it bring a lot of success?
That is what Houston fans are hoping for, but it all depends on several things.
Firstly, will this lineup work well together, or will the addition of Durant and the tweaks from head coach Ime Udoka throw things off?
A new lineup doesn’t always work excellently right away.
Plus, how will the rest of the West look at the start of 2025-26?
Other teams will surely react to this big trade for Durant, and there is a chance the competition is even tougher next year.
But this revelation about next season’s starting five is exactly what Houston fans wanted to hear.
They have high hopes and a real belief in this new-look team, and now they just want a lot of wins.
