The Pittsburgh Steelers could only trust that Aaron Rodgers would eventually agree to play for them.
Justin Fields and Russell Wilson left the team early in the offseason, and they would’ve been stuck with either Mason Rudolph or rookie Will Howard at quarterback.
Fortunately for them, they traded for D.K. Metcalf.
In a recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers admitted that getting a chance to play with a hard-working guy like Metcalf was one of the reasons why he chose to join Mike Tomlin’s team.

The Steelers acquired Metcalf, and it seemed like they would have a dominant and physical one-two punch at wide receiver.
Instead, they chose to move on from the trouble-making George Pickens, whose talent and skills were only outweighed by his character issues and temper tantrums.
It would’ve obviously been great to watch Rodgers play with both of them, but perhaps having Metcalf and Pickens in the same locker room would’ve spelled disaster.
Ultimately, Mike Tomlin didn’t want to have another Antonio Brown situation on his hands, and it might be for the better.
Even so, they will be back to square one next offseason.
Rodgers admitted that this will most likely be his final season in the league, which isn’t a surprise, as he’s mulled retirement for three years now.
That made him an even riskier bet.
But after losing their two quarterbacks and watching other teams make moves, they pretty much dug themselves into a corner, with Rodgers as their only potential savior.
