Reports: Canadian Nembhard signs with Mavericks, Telfort with Clippers

Aurora, Ont., native Ryan Nembhard reportedly agreed to a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony on Thursday.

Nembhard wasn’t selected during the 2025 NBA Draft.

Toronto’s Dwight Powell and Montreal’s Olivier-Maxence Prosper also are on the Mavericks’ roster.

Nembhard joins brother Andrew of the Indiana Pacers in hopes of becoming only the second pair of Canadian brothers to suit up in the NBA. Emanuel and Leonard Miller of the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves, respectively, were the first siblings to accomplish the feat.

Much like his brother, the younger Nembhard enjoyed a four-year collegiate career before joining the NBA ranks. He spent his first two season with the Creighton Blue Jays before transferring to the Gonzaga Bulldogs for his junior and seniors seasons.

In his final year in Spokane, Wash. Nembhard averaged 9.8 assists per game — the most in D-1 college basketball — while adding 10.5 points and a West Coast Conference-leading 1.7 steals. He shot 44.6 per cent from the field and 40.4 per cent from three-point range.

The 22-year-old Aurora, Ont. native helped steer the Bulldogs to March Madness with a 26-9 record after winning the WCC Tournament. However, they were eliminated by the Houston Cougars in the second round.

Meanwhile, Montreal’s Jahmyl Telfort signed with the Los Angeles Clippers after the draft, Givony reported.

Telfort, who played for Butler the past two years after transferring following his third year at Northeaster, was named to the All-Big East third team last season.

The six-foot-seven forward led Butler in scoring in 2024-25, averaging 16 points per game.
