Giménez, who was making his return to Toronto’s lineup after suffering an ankle injury on Wednesday, was in clear pain while going from first to third on a single by George Springer.
The 26-year-old limped his way into the bag and was lifted for Leo Jiménez during an Angels pitching change.
There was no immediate announcement on Giménez’s status.
He suffered the initial ankle injury while taking a throw on a stolen base against the New York Yankees, jamming his ankle into the ground.
Giménez had reached via an RBI single in the inning, part of his 1-for-3 night in the Blue Jays’ leadoff position.
Acquired by Toronto in an off-season trade with the Cleveland Guardians, the three-time Gold Glover entered Friday’s series opener with a .216/.299/.322 slash line with five home runs and 10 stolen bases.
Giménez previously missed time this season after suffering a quad injury during the Blue Jays’ series in Los Angeles against the Angels in early May.
