MANILA, Philippines—Gilas Pilipinas Women continued their up-and-down run in the 2025 William Jones Cup.

The Philippines fell to South Korea, 80-58, in Taipei on Friday—just a day after a convincing 83-66 win over Thailand.

While their domination of the Thais was exemplary, Friday told a different story.

Despite great outings from Sumayah Sugapong and Jack Animam, the women’s squad from the Philippines fell victim to a sluggish start.

After trailing by 14 at the end of the first quarter, 26-12, Gilas was unable to mount any sort of a comeback against the Koreans.

Sugapong was everywhere for the Philippines with 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Animam, meanwhile, registered a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds but to no avail. Ella Fajardo also finished with 11 points in a losing effort for Gilas Women.

Choi Isaem exploded for South Korea with 23 big points to down the Philippines for its second loss in three outings.

As of posting, Gilas is facing Japan, which is undefeated after three games in the continental meet.
