San Antonio acquired the Canadian forward from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley and a 2026 second-round pick on Tuesday night, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.
Olynyk, who split the 2024-25 season between Toronto and New Orleans, averaged 8.1 points and 4.7 rebounds on 50 per cent shooting over 44 games between his two stops.
With San Antonio, he will join a frontcourt rotation that includes Victor Wembanyama, Harrison Barnes, Luke Kornet and Jeremy Sochan.
The Toronto native and longtime Canadian National Team member will be entering his 13th NBA season in 2025-26, having played with Boston, Miami, Houston, Detroit, Utah, Toronto and New Orleans.
The Raptors traded Olynyk to the Pelicans as part of the Brandon Ingram trade last February.
New Orleans then sent the 34-year-old to Washington alongside CJ McCollum this off-season in a three-team trade that saw Saddiq Bey and Jordan Poole land with the Pelicans.
Heading back to Washington in the deal are Branham and Wesley, both 22.
Branham, a six-foot-four guard, averaged 5.0 points in 47 games off the bench for the Spurs last season, shooting 45.8 per cent from the floor and 40.5 per cent from three. San Antonio selected him with the 20th-overall pick in the 2022 draft.
Wesley, who was selected five picks later in 2022, came off the bench in 58 games for the Spurs last season and averaged 3.7 points and 2.0 assists in 11.8 minutes of action per night. A six-foot-five guard, Wesley shot 50 per cent from behind the arc.
Charania also reported that the second-round pick heading to the Wizards will be the least favourable of Dallas’, Philadelphia’s and Oklahoma City’s selections.
