Blue Jays place Ryan Burr on 60-day IL, select Tommy Nance to MLB roster

Ryan Burr‘s MLB return lasted just two innings.

The Toronto Blue Jays placed Burr on the 60-day injured list Friday with a right shoulder rotator cuff strain and selected right-handed reliever Tommy Nance to the major-league roster.

Burr exited in the bottom of the seventh inning against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday after looking uncomfortable after he missed on a 2-2 slider.

The 31-year-old right-hander lasted just 0.2 innings before being forced to leave. Yariel Rodiguez came into the game and finished the seventh inning with a one-pitch strikeout.

Burr was scheduled to undergo an MRI in Toronto after the early exit.

He was activated by the Blue Jays on July 5 after opening the season on the IL with a right shoulder injury. In his two innings of work, Burr didn’t allow a run and struck out three.

In 2024 with Toronto, the 31-year-old right-hander posted a 4.13 ERA while striking out 47 in 32.2 innings of work.

Nance will return to the Blue Jays after throwing 22.0 innings for the team last season. He pitched to a 4.09 ERA with 19 strikeouts over his cameo with the team after landing in Toronto off waivers.

In 2025, however, the 34-year-old has spent the entirety of the season with triple-A Buffalo. He had a 4.60 ERA over 31.1 innings before Friday’s recall.
