LAS VEGAS–Mark Magsayo made it a perfect 2-0 for Filipino fighters in the undercard of Manny Pacquiao-Mario Barrios on Saturday at MGM Grand Arena here.

Magsayo found Mexico’s Jorge Mata Cuellar a tough nut to crack before earning a unanimous decision win in their 10-round super featherweight clash.

Two judges had it a shutout for Magsayo, 100-90, while the other scored it 98-92.

The numbers, however, failed to show a scrappy encounter where Magsayo threw everything he could and Cuellar absorbed a ton of power shots while answering with brilliant counterpunches.

Magsayo, a former world champion at featherweight, improved his record to 28-2 with 18 knockouts and claimed the WBC Continental Americas belt.

The Tagbilaran City, Bohol native had his best round in the fourth, where he unloaded power shots, connecting on a variety of punches.

A shot at a world title is expected to come next for Magsayo, who was once the WBC featherweight champion after beating Gary Russell Jr. in January 2022.

Magsayo’s victory followed up Eumir Marcial’s third-round stoppage of American Bernard Joseph in the non-televised curtain raiser.

Pacquiao, returning from a four-year retirement, challenges WBC welterweight champion Barrios in the main event.
