MANILA, Philippines–Former world champion Jerwin Ancajas had a triumphant return in the US boxing scene.
Ancajas remained on track for a world title shot after beating Uruguay’s Ruben Casero by majority decision in their eight-round super bantamweight bout at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California.

Two judges saw an 80-72 shutout in favor of Ancajas, while the other surprisingly scored it 76-76 despite a masterful showing by the Panabo, Del Norte native.
The fight marked Ancajas’ first fight in the United States since June 2023.
Things are looking up for Ancajas after a tumultuous two-year stretch from February 2022 to February 2024, where he dropped three of his four bouts.

Ancajas last appeared in a world championship fight in February 2024 when he was knocked out by Japan’s Takuma Inoue in the ninth round of their WBA bantamweight title bout in Tokyo.
The 34-year-old Ancajas, who wore a Luka Doncic Los Angeles Lakers jersey during his ring walk, upped his record to 37-4-2 with 24 knockouts.
He once had a six-year reign as the IBF super flyweight champion.
