Ildefonso powers Abra to playoffs


Abra Solid North Weavers overpowered Manila Batang Quiapo, 117-63, to seize the solo lead in the 1xBet-MPBL 2025 Season presented by Manny Pacquiao on Monday at Filoil EcoOil Centre.

The Weavers broke the game wide open with a 19-point run bridging the second and third quarters, turning a 13-point lead into a 78-46 blowout en route to their 20th win against just one loss in the elimination round of the 30-team tournament.

Abra is now assured of a playoff berth, joining fellow North Division contenders San Juan and Nueva Ecija, both with 19-1 records.

Dave Ildefonso led the assault with 25 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. John Uduba contributed a double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds along with two assists and two steals, while Jolo Mendoza chipped in 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Mark Yee and CJ Austria added 10 points apiece, while Geo Chiu tallied nine points and nine rebounds. Joshua David also impressed with eight points, 10 assists and five rebounds.

With Uduba and the 6-foot-10 Chiu anchoring the paint, Abra dominated the boards with a 73-36 rebounding edge. That translated into a 50-16 advantage in points in the paint and a 22-3 edge in second-chance points.

Manila, which dropped to 2-18, got 20 points and nine rebounds from Alfred Sedillo and 15 points from Decoy Lopez.

The MPBL resumes Tuesday at the Orion Sports Complex with Nueva Ecija facing Pasig at 4 p.m., Muntinlupa battling Batangas at 6 p.m. and Bataan hosting Binan at 8 p.m.
