Manager John Schneider said that the decision to have Varsho on the bench was pre-determined as the Blue Jays manage his workload following his return from the injured list.
The 29-year-old had been sidelined since May 31 after sustaining a Grade 1 strain in his left hamstring.
Varsho has hit three home runs and 10 RBIs in Denver, taking advantage of the high altitude at Coors Field.
Myles Straw will take Varsho’s spot in centre field for his day off.
Davis Schneider also gets into the leadoff spot, taking over for Joey Loperfido, who was removed from Tuesday’s game after taking a pitch off the side of his knee.
