A crazy idea might be worth exploring as the old world order splinters

It sounds ridiculous, an absurdist fantasy.

How could California ever become part of the European Union when the first requirement for membership is that any interested state be European?

Moreover, how could California severe its relationship with the United States, a possibility I’ve already explored and rejected as unworkable?

Lastly, whatever the cultural camaraderie, wouldn’t the 6,000 miles between California and Europe make such a far-flung enterprise dead on arrival?

Yet, what if it didn’t?

Despite all the practical and political hurdles, what if we shut down the rational voices in our heads and paused to consider the hypothetical circumstances that might shatter and reshape the current reality?
